How to Become a Christian

[A New Start] God loves you and has a wonderful life planned for you. You can read about how to get that life in the Bible, God's Word. In the Gospel of John 10:10, Jesus says "I have come that you may have life, and have it to the full."

Everyone does not have the wonderful life that God planned because of the sin in his or her lives. In modern society, sin is often thought about as something you do that makes God mad, but it is really a problem of the heart. A person who has no relationship to God, who doesn't read the Bible, does not pray, and fails to be in relationship with persons who have become Christians, is a sinner. In fact, God's word says, we all are sinners, Romans 3:23, "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

Despite your sin God loves you and has given you a most precious gift. The gift is His Son, Jesus, who has made a way for each person to have a wonderful life free and forgiven of all sin. Romans 5:8, "…God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ (Jesus) died for us."

So, how do you get this gift? All you have to do is believe that Jesus is His Son, ask forgiveness for sin, and commit to live a life following the example Jesus set for you. Romans 10:9, "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."

What are you waiting for? Jesus wants to enter your heart today. Revelation 3:20, "Here I am, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in…"

Right now, if you choose to believe that Jesus died for your sins and you are ready to receive Him into yo
[Jesus]ur heart, you can pray a prayer similar to the one follows:

Dear heavenly Father, I know that I have sinned and that Jesus died for my sins. I want to receive into my heart the gift you have given me, Jesus, Your son. Please take away my sins because I want the wonderful life you have planned for me. Thank you for giving me Jesus as my savior and lord. Amen

If you prayed this prayer, share that decision with a Christian friend or a pastor near where you live. If you are not already attending a church, find one in which you can worship and grow in your faith. Also, we would love to hear from you about your decision to follow Jesus Christ.
